The month of March 2026 marked a period of intensive community mobilization and administrative excellence across all 80 Urban Local Bodies of Jammu & Kashmir. Under the strategic leadership of the Housing & Urban Development Department, the mission transitioned from routine sanitation to a high-impact movement focused on scientific waste management and citizen-led cleanliness. A primary highlight was the successful execution of the Shaheedi Diwas Online Poetry Competition hosted by the Jammu Municipal Corporation, which integrated cultural heritage with outreach efforts. This digital initiative encouraged patriotic expression across multiple languages, effectively engaging youth under the SwachhSurvekshan 2026 framework and recognizing top performers across the Bal Veer, Yuva Josh, and Rashtra Prerna categories.
Simultaneously, the “Naari Leads Swachhata” campaign was spearheaded to honor the pivotal role of women in the sanitation workforce, particularly in leadership and frontline operations during International Women’s Day celebrations. To ensure the dignity and health of these essential workers, specialized SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivirs were organized citywide, providing comprehensive medical check-ups and safety kits to our cleanliness warriors. These welfare initiatives were complemented by the Swachhata Excellence Campaign, which pushed for 100% source segregation at the household level to accelerate the certification of urban centers as Garbage-Free Cities.
On the environmental front, massive Spring Plantation Drives were conducted throughout the Valley to enhance green cover and preserve the ecological health of the region. The mission further amplified its reach through a robust digital IEC strategy, producing and disseminating 3600 social media creatives and customized short videos across Instagram, Facebook, and X to promote responsible civic behavior. By combining on-ground interventions like door-to-door awareness with large-scale media coordination, the department successfully fostered a shared sense of responsibility among residents, ensuring that J&K continues its steady journey toward urban excellence and sustainable transformation.
