A landscape truly transforms when a community decides to invest in its own soil. In a beautiful alignment with the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative on World Environment Day, the Municipal Council Samba joined forces with the District Administration, the Block Development Office (BDO), and the Forest Division Samba to launch a meaningful plantation drive across the district. Moving past symbolic gestures, the day was defined by muddy hands, shared purpose, and a collective commitment to local conservation.

The atmosphere across the selected planting sites was vibrant as local residents stood shoulder-to-shoulder with regional administrators. Leading by example, the Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Samba, alongside Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Mrs. Champa Devi (JKAS) and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mr. Jagdish Singh (JKAS), actively participated in the digging and planting. Their presence, along with the enthusiastic turnout of everyday citizens and field teams, underscored a shared responsibility for the region’s ecological health.
To ensure the drive had a lasting impact on Samba’s specific microclimate, the Forest Division carefully selected hardy, indigenous saplings well-suited to the local terrain, including Sukhchain (Pongamia pinnata) and Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo). Together, the officials, community mobilizers, and neighborhood families successfully planted 100 of these native saplings across multiple locations. These trees were chosen not just for their shade, but for their ability to thrive in the regional soil and naturally enhance the area’s green cover over time.

By the time the final sapling was secured, the event had achieved something deeper than just meeting an environmental target. It bridged the gap between administrative policy and community ownership. For the residents of Samba who took part, planting a tree became apersonal promise to the future a living investment that will provide cleaner air, healthier surroundings, and a greener legacy for generations to come.
