A Green Wave Sweeps Through Pattan: Schools Lead the Way

The spirit of the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban (SBM-U) is truly alive in Pattan where the Municipal Committee (MC) and its dedicated IEC team Baramulla are turning educational institutions into beacons of sustainability. This recent initiative the Green Campus Declaration focused on promoting eco-friendly actions and assessing environmental parameters across local schools a vital step in nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards.

The IEC team recently completed a detailed round of visits to three key institutions: Al Huda Public School Pattan Govt Girls High School Pattan and New Era Islamic Public School Pattan. The primary goal was to evaluate existing sustainability practices encourage further adoption of green technologies and significantly boost student awareness regarding waste management cleanliness and overall green initiatives.

The assessment was rigorous focusing on six critical parameters that define a truly green campus:

  • Solid Waste Management Segregation at source use of color-coded bins composting and robust recycling systems were all evaluated.
  • Energy Efficiency The move toward LED lighting adoption of renewable energy like solar and general awareness about energy conservation were key indicators.
  • Greenery & Plantation The maintenance of existing trees the presence of herbal or kitchen gardens and student engagement in plantation drives showed commitment to biodiversity.
  • Cleanliness & Hygiene Clean surroundings hygienic washrooms and the organization of regular cleanliness drives highlighted a proactive approach to sanitation.
  • Environmental Education & Awareness The effectiveness of Eco-club activities the inclusion of environmental themes in the curriculum and the observance of ‘green days’ demonstrated pedagogical commitment.
  • Plastic-Free & Eco-Friendly Practices The crucial parameter of banning single-use plastic and promoting biodegradable materials was a measure of institutional resolve.

The conclusion drawn from the visits was overwhelmingly positive. The IEC team Baramulla extended heartfelt appreciation for the proactive efforts of the schools. Their dedication to adopting sustainable and environment-friendly measures is setting a powerful example for the entire community.
