A Legacy of Cleanliness: October 2025 Highlights

During the month of October 2025, the Mission Directorate SBM-U 2.0, Jammu & Kashmir, achieved significant milestones in urban sanitation and community health. Operating under the Housing and Urban Development Department, the mission successfully integrated digital grievance redressal with grassroots social movements to foster a “Garbage-Free Urban Jammu and Kashmir”.

The “Swasth Naari Sashakt Parivar” Campaign

A central highlight of the month was the Poshan Maah campaign, observed from September 17th to October 16th, 2025. Under the theme Swasth Naari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan,” the mission conducted 207 diverse activities focused on women’s health and family well-being. Across various Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), the IEC teams organized yoga sessions in Srinagar, fitness walkathons in Shopian, and hygiene awareness programs at schools like DPS Jammu. These initiatives were designed to drive behavioral change by emphasizing handwashing, safe drinking water, and the reduction of obesity through better nutrition.

Digital Governance and Citizen Outreach

To ensure a responsive urban cleanliness system, the mission spearheaded the Swachh.CityGrievance Redressal Campaign. This month-long effort promoted the Swachhata App, resulting in 8,025 new installations. By training staff across ULBs in effective app usage, the mission successfully addressed and resolved 490 sanitation complaints within specified service timelines.

Sustainability and Capacity Building

Environmental stewardship took a major leap forward through the Green Campus Initiative, which saw the identification of over 1,000 green campuses. This achievement represents 80% of the mission’s current target for building sustainable urban spaces. Simultaneously, the mission identified more than 50 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to lead local efforts in waste segregation and home composting. To support these operations, the Swaaha IEC Team conducted 99 capacity-building sessions, equipping field and administrative staff with the technical skills necessary for modern waste management and digital reporting
