Capacity Building Programme on Sustainable Waste Management Held at Municipal Council Anantnag
Anantnag, November 10, 2025:
A Capacity Building Programme was successfully organised at the Municipal Council (MC) Anantnag under the guidance of Mr. Tabraiz Madani, Capacity Building Expert. The event aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of municipal staff and sanitation teams in promoting sustainable waste management practices across the town.
The session was graced by the presence of the Executive Officer, MC Anantnag, along with other senior officials of the Council. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from sanitation workers, sanitary supervisors and data entry operators, who play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of waste collection and disposal.
During the interactive session, Mr. Madani spoke in detail about the importance of source segregation of waste, terming it as the foundation of an efficient waste management system. He also stressed on the ban of single-use plastic and encouraged all participants to spread awareness within their communities about adopting sustainable alternatives. A significant part of the discussion focused on the establishment and functioning of RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centres, which aim to minimise waste generation and promote resource recovery through recycling and reuse.

Highlighting the contribution of partner organisations in driving behaviour change, Swaaha Resource Management Pvt. Ltd. was felicitated by the Municipal Council for its outstanding efforts in IEC (Information, Education and Communication) campaigns. Through creative outreach and public engagement initiatives, Swaaha has been instrumental in spreading awareness about responsible waste practices and citizen participation under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0 framework.
The Executive Officer, while addressing the gathering, appreciated the dedication of sanitation staff and the continued support of IEC partners in making Anantnag cleaner and greener. He urged all stakeholders to sustain their efforts and ensure the effective implementation of waste segregation and plastic-free practices at the household and ward levels.
The programme concluded with a collective commitment from all participants to uphold cleanliness standards, encourage public participation, and contribute to the city’s journey toward a zero-waste and environmentally sustainable Anantnag.
