Green Campus Revolution Sweeps Across Jammu and Kashmir as Multiple Districts Achieve Swachh Bharat Milestones

SRINAGAR/JAMMU — The Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 is witnessing a significant transformation across the Union Territory as the Green Campus initiative successfully expands its reach. In a major push toward environmental sustainability, several prestigious educational institutions, healthcare centers and government offices in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions have been formally declared “Green Campuses” after meeting rigorous eco-friendly parameters.

In the Kashmir division, the movement has seen remarkable success in Sopore, Pampore and Srinagar. The Municipal Council Sopore recently certified the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore for its excellence in waste segregation and maintaining a plastic-free environment. In a boost to the healthcare sector, the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Pampore was declared a Green Campus by the Municipal Committee Pampore, following a detailed assessment of its energy efficiency and waste management protocols. Furthermore, the Cantonment Board Office in Srinagar has led by example, earning its own certification by adopting overall eco-friendly practices within its administrative operations.

Simultaneously, the Jammu division is making rapid strides with significant certifications in Rajouri and Samba. The Municipal Committee Thannamandi has formally recognized Government Degree College Thannamandi as a Green Campus, applauding its commitment to clean and functional sanitation facilities. In Samba, Bhargava Degree College has also joined the ranks of certified institutions, setting a strong benchmark for private educational centers in the region. These achievements follow the recent success in Reasi, where the Government Middle Model School DIET was recognized for its months-long efforts in converting wet waste into compost and banning single-use plastics.

This widespread progress highlights a unified effort across Jammu and Kashmir to create a “Garbage-Free” environment. By bringing schools, colleges, hospitals, and government offices under the Green Campus framework, the mission is successfully instilling a culture of environmental stewardship. These newly certified campuses now serve as regional models, proving that with collective effort and responsible waste management, a cleaner and greener future is well within reach for every district.
