BARAMULLA, J&K – February 7, 2026 In a major push toward the Swachh Survekshan2025-26 assessment, Municipal Council Baramulla and Municipal Committee Watergamtoday launched a series of high-impact sanitation and awareness activities across their respective jurisdictions. These initiatives are part of a month-long, outcome-oriented campaign designed to strengthen field-level service delivery and ensure visible cleanliness outcomes in alignment with Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 guidelines.
Municipal Council Baramulla focused its efforts on a comprehensive community awareness campaign within busy commercial areas. Officials and IEC teams held direct sit-down sessions with residents and visited local shops to emphasize the critical importance of ending open defecation and urination. By engaging directly with the business community, the council aims to transform public health into a shared priority and establish lasting habits that keep commercial hubs clean and hygienic.
Simultaneously, Municipal Committee Watergam executed an intensive cleaning operation at the Sumo Stand and Bus Adda in Ward No. 01. Recognizing these locations as high-traffic transport hubs, teams conducted thorough sweeping and waste removal to enhance the environment for commuters and local traders. This drive was specifically aimed at maintaining visible cleanliness and ensuring that proper sanitation measures are in place to prevent future waste dumping, thereby boosting the local market’s appeal.
The outreach continued in Ward No. 02, Dangerpora B, where Watergam officials conducted a targeted awareness program regarding sustained Open Defecation Free (ODF) behavior. Inhabitants of the ward provided positive feedback and committed to encouraging others to utilize Community and Public Toilets (CT/PT) instead of the open. Furthermore, an awareness drive was held at the local RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centre to promote circular economy practices. Citizens were encouraged to donate usable items to support resource recovery and provide direct benefits to needy members of the community. These combined efforts reflect a unified commitment to achieving the highest standards of sanitation and citizen engagement for the upcoming national assessment.
