JAMMU, JANUARY 31, 2026 — As part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 and the monthly action plan for January, the Jammu Municipal Corporation organized a comprehensive capacity building programme today focused on the NAMASTE Scheme and the Swachhata Udyami Yojana. This initiative was specifically held to educate and empower sewer and septic tank workers along with waste pickers to move toward a safer and more mechanized sanitation system.

During the session, field staff and officials provided detailed awareness regarding the financial assistance, capital subsidies, and loan support available for the procurement of modern mechanized equipment. The program centered on the core objectives of the NAMASTE Scheme which include promoting sustainable livelihoods and ensuring that sanitation work is handled with the highest standards of safety. By encouraging workers to become self-employed through these schemes, the JMC aims to eliminate manual practices and replace them with mechanized solutions that protect the health and dignity of the workforce.

The event also focused on identifying workers who have not yet enrolled in the scheme to ensure they receive social security benefits and livelihood opportunities. This drive is a key part of the Swachhtantra 2.0 campaign which celebrates the link between democratic responsibility and cleanliness. All data and progress from today’s program are being documented for the Swachhatam Portal to ensure the mission’s goals of worker empowerment and safety are met across the region.
