The MDs in Jammu & Kashmir have introduced innovative solutions tailored to the region’s needs, such as addressing the waste management challenges in hilly terrains, cold climates, and areas with limited infrastructure. They spearhead initiatives to achieve 100% source segregation of waste, promote scientific disposal methods, and manage construction and demolition waste effectively. A significant focus has been placed on the remediation of legacy waste dumpsites, which have long marred the region’s pristine beauty. Additionally, MDs work tirelessly to build the capacity of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) by equipping them with technical expertise and resources to implement advanced waste management practices.
Public engagement is a cornerstone of HUDD’s approach, with Mission Directors championing extensive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns to raise awareness and drive behavioral change among citizens. These campaigns focus on the importance of proper waste disposal, the benefits of waste segregation, and the hazards of single-use plastics, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among communities. Furthermore, MDs collaborate with private sector entities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and academic institutions to amplify the impact of their initiatives, leveraging partnerships to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions.
