Reasi/Samba — The ongoing Green Campus initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0 ) has reached a new milestone as it formally expands its footprint into the Jammu Division. In a series of recent evaluations, educational institutions in the districts of Reasi and Samba have been officially certified as Green Campuses, marking a successful extension of the environmental campaign that has been transforming the landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
On December 20, 2025, the Municipal Council Reasi formally declared the Government Middle Model School DIET Reasi, located at Nai Basti, as a Green Campus. This recognition followed a detailed inspection by the council team, who evaluated the school premises on several critical parameters of sustainability. The institution stood out for its commitment to source segregation of waste and its innovative approach to managing biodegradable wet waste. Furthermore, the school has successfully transformed its campus by promoting reusable items and strictly enforcing a ban on single-use plastics. The transformation was the result of months of dedicated awareness campaigns and collective efforts by both students and staff, who have embraced their roles as responsible citizens to ensure hygienic sanitation and a clean learning environment.
Simultaneously, the Municipal Council Samba has awarded the Green Campus certificate to the Government Model Higher Secondary School Samba. The school successfully met all the prescribed benchmarks, demonstrating excellence in the maintenance of functional and clean sanitation facilities and the promotion of an eco-friendly atmosphere. By institutionalizing waste segregation and eliminating plastic from its daily operations, the school has set a powerful example for other academic institutions in the Samba district to follow.
The extension of this campaign into the Jammu division highlights the growing success of the Green Campus initiative in fostering a culture of cleanliness and environmental stewardship. By involving schools and government bodies in these efforts, the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 is ensuring that the next generation is at the forefront of the movement toward a sustainable and plastic-free future. These certifications serve as a formal acknowledgment of the hard work put in by the local communities and the municipal councils to elevate the standards of public health and ecological conservation across the region.
