KATHUA — In a major boost to the ongoing Green Campus Initiative under the SwachhBharat Mission Urban 2.0, several key government departments and the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Kathua have been officially certified as Green Campuses. This development marks a significant shift in the administrative landscape of the Jammu division as public offices take the lead in demonstrating environmental sustainability and responsible governance.
The Municipal Council Kathua formally awarded Green Campus certificates to the District Forest Department, the District Sheep Husbandry Department, the District Horticulture Department and ITI Kathua. The certification was granted following a comprehensive assessment that evaluated the institutions on their ability to maintain a plastic-free environment and ensure excellence in waste management. These departments successfully demonstrated a high standard of source segregation and the effective upkeep of clean and functional sanitation facilities, proving that even high-footfall government buildings can operate with an eco-friendly mindset.
By achieving this milestone, the district offices have set a powerful example for other administrative hubs in the region. The commitment shown by these departments highlights that the mission for a “Garbage-Free” Jammu and Kashmir is not limited to educational institutions but is a shared responsibility across all sectors of government. The Municipal Council Kathua lauded the collective efforts of the staff and leadership within these departments for their months-long dedication to behavioral change and ecological preservation.
This round of certifications serves as a formal recognition of the hard work put in by the local authorities to elevate the standards of public health and conservation. As the District Forest, Sheep Husbandry, and Horticulture departments, along with ITI Kathua, display their new Green Campus status, they provide a roadmap for other government institutions to follow, ensuring that sustainability becomes a permanent part of public service in the district.
