In the town of Frisal, Kulgam the celebration of International Women’s Day was transformed into a meaningful act of care through a dedicated health initiative led by the Municipal Committee, in close collaboration with the IEC Executive and local Self-Help Groups. Recognizing that the town’s cleanliness relies entirely on the tireless efforts of its female sanitation workers, the administration chose to honor this day by placing the well-being of these frontline heroes at the forefront. Under the banner of the Swachhata Excellence Campaign 2026, a specialized health checkup camp was established to ensure that those who guard our public health are themselves protected and healthy.
This program was built on the understanding that sanitation workers often prioritize the needs of the community over their own personal health. By providing comprehensive medical screenings and professional consultations, the committee and its partners ensured that these women received the attention and care they deserve. The involvement of Self-Help Groups added a layer of community solidarity, turning the camp into a space of mutual support and shared respect. For many of the participants, this was a rare opportunity to step back from their rigorous daily routines and receive necessary preventive care in a supportive environment.
The success of this camp in Frisal reflects the core objective of the Swachhata Excellence Campaign, which aims to provide dignity and safety to the sanitation workforce. By treating the health of these workers as a priority, the Municipal Committee has sent a powerful message to the community about the true cost and value of a clean environment. This initiative stands as a testament to the fact that a cleaner city is built on the foundation of a healthy and respected workforce, and it serves as an inspiring model for how we can continue to support our sanitation warriors throughout the ongoing mission for a cleaner, safer society.
