A Wave of Green Along the Jhelum: Rajbagh Riverfront Hosts Mega Awareness Rally for a Cleaner Srinagar

The quiet morning along the Riverfront Rajbagh was transformed into a vibrant center of civic action as the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) brought its World Environment Day campaign directly to the streets. Moving past standard indoor meetings, the corporation organized a sprawling Mega Awareness Rally right along the water, using one of the city’s most visible public landmarks to deliver a clear message about environmental responsibility and hands-on cleanliness.

The energy of the event was driven by an enthusiastic crowd that brought together municipal officials, field teams, local residents, and a massive, energetic delegation of students from New Era Public School, Rajbagh. Marching along a designated route parallel to the river, the participants carried hand-made placards and bold banners that focused entirely on practical solutions for the city’s urban environment: reducing daily waste, protecting natural water resources, and adopting the mandatory source segregation practices required under the 2026 waste guidelines.

What made the rally stand out was its interactive approach. Instead of simply marching past onlookers, the Swachhata Executives and community mobilizers used the walk to fan out into nearby public spaces and commercial corners. They engaged directly with passing citizens and shopkeepers, breaking down the logistics of proper waste separation and explaining how keeping garbage out of public spaces directly impacts the health of the local ecosystem.

The students from New Era Public School quickly became the heart of the campaign, chanting slogans and talking to peers about the vital role the younger generation plays in breaking old habits. By the time the rally concluded along the riverfront, the event had achieved its real purpose: it turned a seasonal environmental theme into a shared community commitment, proving that a cleaner, greener Srinagar relies on collective action and everyday public pride.
