BILLAWAR, J&K – February 7, 2026 In direct alignment with the Swachh Survekshan2025-26 Field Preparedness and Assessment Readiness campaign, the Municipal Committee Billawar today conducted an extensive ground-level awareness drive focusing on the town’s commercial sectors. This initiative is a key component of the month-long, outcome-oriented campaign proposed in the Action Plan to strengthen ODF (Open Defecation Free) behaviorsacross all Urban Local Bodies.

The drive was characterized by a personalized, “one-by-one” approach, where teams visited shopkeepers individually to discuss the critical importance of ending open defecation and urination. By engaging directly with the trading community, the Committee aims to address pollution hotspots and promote environmentally responsible practices within high-footfall commercial areas.

Shopkeepers were sensitized on their role in maintaining visible cleanliness and were encouraged to act as influencers for their customers. The primary objective of these interactions is to ensure that commercial hubs do not just meet the technical criteria for the upcoming field assessment, but also provide a clean, healthy, and dignified environment for every citizen.

Under the guidelines of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, this community meeting approach is designed to foster sustained behavioral changes. Municipal Committee Billawarremains committed to identifying and closing service gaps through such continuous engagement and time-bound corrective actions ahead of the national assessment.
