In a powerful continuation of last year’s successful environmental movements, the Kashmir Division has officially launched Swachhtantra 2.0 – Pride in Democracy, Pride in Cleanliness. This month-long initiative, stretching across the diverse landscape of the valley, aims to weave the spirit of patriotism with the essential duty of environmental stewardship. Following a comprehensive monthly roster, Urban Local Bodies throughout the region have transitioned from planning to intensive field operations, ensuring that the preparations for the upcoming Republic Day are marked by visible transformation and community-led hygiene.

The rollout has seen immediate and impactful results as Municipal Councils and Committees address long-standing sanitation challenges. In the Municipal Committee of Hajin, a major milestone was achieved at Ward No. 13, Bhanger Mohalla, where teams successfully eliminated identified Garbage Vulnerable Points that had previously impacted local health and aesthetics. Similarly, the Municipal Council of Pulwama took decisive action at the Old Bus Stand, removing accumulated waste from a critical public hub identified during recent surveys. These efforts underscore a shift toward “quantifiable cleanliness,” where every cleared site represents a permanent restoration of public space.

The mission has also penetrated deep into residential neighborhoods, reflecting the “Jan Andolan” spirit of the campaign. In Bandipora, the Municipal Council focused its manpower on the backlanes of Kaloosa, clearing debris and restoring hygiene to the doorsteps of the community. This focus on often-overlooked areas was matched by the Municipal Council of Shopian, where sanitary staff and IEC teams mobilized at Bongam under the banner of Swachhtantra 2.0 to demonstrate that a clean environment is a fundamental right and responsibility of every citizen. In Pattan, the successful reclamation of the Marriage Hall site from a waste dumping point to a clean community landmark further highlights the strategic success of the ongoing roster.

As the Kashmir Division moves closer to Republic Day, these activities serve as a prelude to even larger mega-drives and Plog Runs designed to unite students, officials, and the general public. By integrating digital pledges and real-time grievance redressal into the daily schedule, the Swachhtantra 2.0 campaign is not just cleaning the streets of Kashmir but is fostering a lasting culture of accountability and pride. The collective action of these various Urban Local Bodies ensures that the celebration of democracy this year is mirrored by the pristine beauty of the land we call home.
