Green Campus Initiative Gains Momentum in Jammu Division as Kathua and Lakhanpur Institutions Achieve Sustainability Milestones
KATHUA/LAKHANPUR — The Jammu division has marked a significant step forward in the ongoing Green Campus Campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0 with several prominent institutions and government offices in Kathua and Lakhanpur officially earning Green Campus certification. This achievement highlights a growing regional commitment to environmental stewardship and reflects the successful implementation of eco-friendly practices across various public sectors.
In a major development for Kathua district, the Municipal Council Kathua has formally declared the Government Degree College Kathua and the Government Degree College for Women Kathua as Green Campuses. Joining these academic institutions in this achievement is the Office of Animal Husbandry Kathua which has also met the rigorous sustainability parameters required for the title. These organizations stood out for their exemplary performance in waste segregation and the consistent maintenance of clean and functional sanitation facilities. By successfully enforcing a plastic-free environment and adopting broader eco-friendly measures, these institutions were awarded official certificates during a ceremony that recognized their role as leaders in the district’s sustainability efforts.
The movement has also seen remarkable success in the border town of Lakhanpur where the Municipal Committee Lakhanpur has officially recognized Government High School Lakhanpur as a Green Campus. The school demonstrated a deep commitment to the mission by transforming its premises through responsible waste management and a strict ban on single-use plastics. The collective effort of the students and faculty has turned the school into a model learning environment that prioritizes public health and ecological balance. This recognition serves as an inspiring example for other schools in the area to follow in the footsteps of Lakhanpur’s educational community.
These new certifications across the Jammu division represent a vital extension of the Green Campus initiative. By bringing together colleges, schools, and government departments under one environmental goal, the campaign is successfully fostering a culture of cleanliness and responsibility. The transition toward these greener workspaces and learning centers is a testament to the hard work of local municipal bodies and the leadership within these institutions. As more campuses join this list, the vision of a cleaner and more sustainable Jammu and Kashmir continues to turn into a reality for the residents of the region.
