Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0: Several New Institutions and Hotels Certified as Green Campuses Across Kashmir

Srinagar/Pulwama/Baramulla — In a major boost to the Green Campus Initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 ( SBM-U 2.0 ) , several prominent educational institutions, government offices, and hospitality establishments have been officially declared as “Green Campuses.” This marks a significant continuation of the regional drive to promote environmental sustainability and hygiene across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Municipal Committee Pattan has formally recognized the Government Degree College Pattan as a Green Campus after the institution successfully met all required parameters. The college demonstrated exceptional standards in waste segregation, the upkeep of clean and functional sanitation facilities, and the maintenance of a plastic-free environment. In a similar move, the MC Pattan Office itself was also certified as a Green Campus, setting a direct example of eco-friendly governance for the local community. Both institutions were awarded official certificates for their commitment to sustainable practices.

The campaign also saw significant progress in Srinagar, where the Cantonment Board Srinagar certified multiple major hospitality sites. Haveli Mount View Hotel and Lemon Tree Hotel were both formally declared Green Campuses. These hotels were lauded for their commendable efforts in effective waste management and for adopting eco-friendly operational practices, providing a new benchmark for the tourism and hospitality sector in the region.

In South Kashmir, the Municipal Council Pulwama has expanded the list of green institutions by certifying the Women’s Degree College Pulwama and the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Dangerpora. These educational centers have shown leadership in creating healthy, eco-sensitive learning environments by prioritizing hygienic sanitation and reducing plastic use.

These recent certifications are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that all large campuses whether academic, commercial, or governmental contribute to the broader goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0 ) . By meeting these rigorous environmental standards, these newly certified campuses are serving as role models for sustainability and public health in their respective districts.
