Swaaha IEC Successfully Conducts Capacity Building Session on Composting at Shanti Nagar Park Jammu, Marking Major Step Towards Localized Waste Management
Jammu – A significant stride towards localized waste management and fostering a greener community was taken today as Swaaha IEC successfully conducted a Capacity Building Session on Composting at Shanti Nagar Park, Ward No. 39.
The initiative, held in collaboration with the local community and the Municipal Corporation, focused on equipping residents and park staff with the practical knowledge and skills required to implement effective composting techniques directly at the source. This critical effort is aligned with the national mission for a Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 (Clean India) and the development of a localized circular economy.
The interactive session was graced by the presence of key officials, including Sanitary Inspector Mr. Akash Kohli, other dedicated sanitation staff, the Swaaha IEC Team, enthusiastic Swachhata Champions and active citizens from Ward 39.
The session covered the essential principles of composting, designed to be easily implemented by the community. A core focus was placed on Source Segregation, emphasizing the paramount importance of separating wet (organic) waste from dry waste to ensure the composting process is efficient and successful. Furthermore, the event featured hands-on demonstrations of Practical Methods, showcasing simple, low-cost composting techniques such as pit composting and Bucket composting, which are perfectly suitable for both community and park settings.
By empowering residents and park authorities to turn their organic waste into valuable compost, Swaaha IEC is not only contributing to a cleaner environment but also promoting self-sustainability within the community.
“The enthusiasm and participation from the citizens of Ward 39 were truly inspiring,” said a representative from the Swaaha IEC Team. “Localizing waste management through composting reduces the burden on landfills and creates a valuable resource for maintaining our parks and gardens. This workshop is a testament to what we can achieve when the community and the municipal body work together.”
This Capacity Building Session marks a vital stage in the ongoing Green Campus Initiative, cementing the commitment of Swaaha IEC and the Municipal Corporation to creating a cleaner, greener and healthier urban environment.
