Baramulla, September 15, 2025:

In line with the ongoing efforts to achieve Garbage Free Cities (GFC) under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0), a comprehensive Capacity Building Program was organized today at the Municipal Council Baramulla. The program was aimed at equipping sanitation staff and officials with practical knowledge and skills on waste segregation at source, door-to-door waste collection, ban on Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) and the establishment of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Centers.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials and sanitary staff of Municipal Council Baramulla and Municipal Committee Uri, who were sensitized on modern and sustainable approaches to waste management. The sessions provided hands-on guidance to staff, enabling them to act as key drivers of behavioral change in their respective communities.

Sharing his expertise during the program, Mr. Tabraiz Madni Capacity Building Expert, Swaaha Resource Management, highlighted the critical role of frontline sanitation workers in transforming waste management systems. He stressed that segregation at the household level forms the foundation of effective solid waste management, while ULBs must ensure efficient collection mechanisms, discouragement of single-use plastics, and promotion of RRR Centers as hubs for recycling and resource recovery.

The initiative is part of a larger capacity building drive being carried out across Jammu & Kashmir to strengthen the implementation of SBM-U 2.0 at the grassroots level. Participants appreciated the interactive format of the training and expressed their commitment to take forward the learnings into their daily work for ensuring cleaner and healthier surroundings.

Reaffirming their commitment, the Municipal Council Baramulla assured that it will continue to organize such initiatives for staff development and community sensitization, thereby accelerating the journey towards a cleaner, greener and garbage-free Baramulla district.
