Jammu & Kashmir, September 17:
The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir today witnessed a vibrant launch of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 and Sewa Parv initiatives under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The campaign, being held from 17th September to 2nd October, will culminate on Swachh Bharat Diwas (Gandhi Jayanti). It seeks to blend festive spirit, cultural ethos, and community action to build cleaner, healthier and zero-waste urban environments across the region.
Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across Jammu & Kashmir carried out a series of impactful activities to mark the occasion. These included mega rallies, cleanliness drives, plantation drives, single-use plastic awareness campaigns, plastic seizure operations, challaning of violators, swachhata pledges and engaging Nukkad Nataks to spread the message of sustainable living. Several ULBs also launched Plastic Biksha Drives, door-to-door awareness campaigns and CTU Transformation initiatives, highlighting the collective resolve for effective waste management.
The campaign was inaugurated with active participation of Deputy Commissioners, Hon’ble MLAs, district officers, representatives from schools and colleges, EO/MC officials, sanitary staff, local residents and Swaaha Swachhata executives, who together reaffirmed their commitment through the Swachhata Pledge.
In Samba, the launch was graced by the Worthy Deputy Commissioner and Hon’ble MLA, followed by a plantation drive and a Nukkad Natak on waste segregation. Similar launches were held in Anantnag, Kupwara, Shopian, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Kathua, Poonch, RS Pura, Banihal, Batote, Lakhanpur, Billawar, Basholi, Biratnagar, Hiranagar, Watragam, Kunzer, Bijbihara and Srinagar Cantonment Board, with citizens enthusiastically joining hands for the cause.
The series of activities conducted today across multiple ULBs reflected the strong will of communities to uphold Gandhiji’s vision of cleanliness and service to society. By encouraging citizen participation and enforcing measures against single-use plastic, the initiative aims to instill cleanliness as a shared responsibility.
With each ULB contributing through rallies, awareness programmes and citizen engagement activities, Jammu & Kashmir has set the tone for a spirited fortnight of action leading up to 2nd October 2025. The campaign is poised to inspire lasting behavioural change and reinforce the vision of a clean, green and zero-waste future.
