Plog Runs and Green Pledges Drive Public Participation Across the UT, With Swahha Teams Leading from the Front
Jammu & Kashmir | June 5, 2025:
In a powerful display of collective climate action, Urban Local Bodies across Jammu & Kashmir marked World Environment Day 2025 with a vibrant wave of Plog Runs a dynamic fusion of jogging and litter collection transforming streets into stretches of environmental consciousness. From the bustling markets of Handwara to the open fields of Udhampur, citizens, students, sanitation staff and volunteers came together to run for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.
At the heart of these efforts were the Swachhta Executives deployed by Swahha Resource Management, who took charge of execution, coordination and awareness generation across multiple towns. Their groundwork, coupled with the enthusiastic participation of locals, turned what could have been routine events into moments of genuine transformation.
The towns of Kathua, Lakhanpur, Rajouri, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmana, R.S. Pura, Bishnah, Ramgarh, Udhampur and others in Jammu Division became hubs of community engagement. In Udhampur, the Mini Stadium witnessed a spirited plog run joined by school students, municipal staff and the Information Department, all coordinated seamlessly by Swahha’s team. Meanwhile, Rajouri’s initiative received a boost with the presence of Hon’ble MLA Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed, as Swahha’s on-ground executives ensured smooth flow of activities, volunteer management and media facilitation.
Up north, in Kupwara and Handwara, students from local schools, along with the Forest and Education Departments, walked hand in hand with sanitation workers, echoing slogans like “Plastic Out, Fabric In”. The route from Hill Grange School through Handwara’s bustling main market became a moving spectacle of civic pride and environmental resolve.
Beyond the plogging efforts, these towns also undertook a range of complementary initiatives from green pledge ceremonies and plantation drives to awareness campaigns encouraging the use of cloth bags and collection drives at RRR centres. In places like Langate, creative approaches such as “Plastic Bhiksha” a door-to-door and shop-to-shop plastic awareness campaign added grassroots depth to the day’s messaging.
What truly set this year apart was the sense of interconnectedness. This wasn’t just a set of isolated events but a synchronized effort across the Union Territory driven by local governance and empowered by SWAAHA Resource Management’s on-ground teams. From mobilizing school participation to distributing IEC materials and guiding the sequence of events, the Swachhta Executives ensured that each event lived up to its purpose and potential.
As the sun set on this year’s World Environment Day, it left behind not just cleaner streets and freshly planted saplings, but also a rejuvenated public spirit. In uniting health, environment and community through the simple act of plogging, Jammu & Kashmir gave the country a powerful message: real change begins when every step is taken together.
